Fred • Fact Check ("Fred", "we", "us") is a WhatsApp-based fact-checking service operated by Fact Check Pro. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. What data we collect
When you use Fred via WhatsApp or our website, we may collect:
- WhatsApp phone number — used to send you fact-check results and identify your account
- Message content — the text, URLs, images, audio, or video you submit for fact-checking
- Usage data — number of fact-checks performed, date and time of requests
- Contact form submissions — name, email, and message if you contact us via the website
We do not collect location data, contacts, or any data beyond what you explicitly send to Fred.
2. How we use your data
- To process and return fact-check verdicts in response to your requests
- To enforce usage limits (free check allowance) and manage billing
- To improve the accuracy and quality of fact-checking results
- To respond to contact form enquiries
- To send service-related messages via WhatsApp (e.g. your verdict, account notices)
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or automated decision-making beyond fact-check processing.
3. How we share your data
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the third-party services necessary to operate Fred:
- Anthropic — AI analysis of claims (text sent for processing; no persistent storage by Anthropic)
- OpenAI — audio transcription via Whisper API
- Tavily / Brave — real-time web search to find relevant sources
- Meta (WhatsApp Business API) — message delivery infrastructure
- Railway — cloud hosting provider where Fred runs
- SendGrid — transactional email for contact form replies
- Stripe — payment processing (when applicable)
All third-party providers are bound by their own privacy policies and data processing agreements.
4. Data retention
We retain the following data:
- Account records (phone number, usage count, billing status) — retained while your account is active and for up to 12 months after your last use
- Fact-check logs (claim text, verdict, cost) — retained for up to 12 months for quality improvement and billing audit purposes
- Contact form submissions — retained for up to 24 months
You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us.
5. Your rights
Under UK GDPR and applicable data protection law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Object to or restrict processing of your data
- Data portability

6. Security
We use industry-standard security practices to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and access controls on our database. No system is completely secure — if you have security concerns, please contact us immediately.
7. Children
Fred is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has submitted data to Fred, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of Fred after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
